Local Clubs

I was pleasantly surprised pulling this list together. I think when you’re used to doing the same ol’ routine, it’s easy to forget just how many opportunities to be involved in different activities there are. New interests, new people to meet. There’s truly something for everyone, kids and adults, where you’re bound to find an abundance of like-minded individuals no matter what your interests are.

For the kids

Scouts Queensland  has been educating kids to get out there and lead a healthy happy life teaching outdoor skills, leadership and building confidence to help them in every aspect of their lives for over a century.

Girl Guides has been helping girls to become the best version of themselves, community leaders of the future and excel in all aspects of their life no matter what their interests are since 1928. Building leadership skills along the way, it’s a foundation stone of character building, life skills and emotional growth through compassion and guidance.

Dance

All That Dance caters to all styles of dance – jazz, tap, funk and ballet just to name a few. There’s something for everyone from beginner through to professional or even if you just want to dance your heart out socially. There’s even acrobatics and yoga for those want to work on their flexibility.

Show Dance ‘from tiny shoes to seniors’ as they say, this dance studio covers it all in every style, age and experience level to dance from the heart with passion. They want you to enjoy anything you choose to do and make friends for life so don’t be shy. They welcome all at their dance school.

FAD Cheer & Dance focusing on fun, teambuilding and making friends for life, this well-respected school focuses on having a blast learning hip hop, jazz and cheerleading.

Gymnastics – Active Arts Australia has grown to provide not only excellent gymnastics but also acrobatics, tumbling, dance and tricking so each student has the most fun doing what they love.

The Gap Football Club is not only for the kids but the big kids as well. Junior and Senior in both men’s and women’s teams enjoy the league and have been since its inception in 1955. A long-standing icon of the community, it’s fun, health and fitness for the whole family.

Little Athletics with the motto ‘family, fun and fitness’ that pretty much explains it all. Kids excel, parents make friends for life and everyone is encouraged to get involved making it a fun family activity for all.

Fitness

Ritual HQ offers a 24/7 gym with personal trainers, coaches and programs to help you meet all of your personal fitness goals. They also have free health education sessions, one-on-one, group or small-group training if you want to do it with a friend.

FITFIX specialises in group fitness for women so you don’t have to do it alone. Supportive, motivating and with 15 years of experience the trainer helps every woman achieve her goals no matter what stage of life she is in or what fitness level. Covering everything including nutrition and any lifestyle changes you may want to make, it’s a safe and supportive environment to do it in.

For the adults

Rotary Club of Ashgrove, The Gap helping to support and serve the local community since 1972, local Rotarians have fund-raised, built parks, planted trees, provided support to community activities and much more. A highly regarded club network worldwide, Rotary is one of those icons of community leadership.

RSLReturned & Services League of Australia – Queensland Branch has been supporting Defence members and families since 1916. Providing assistance in everything from finance and housing through to employment opportunities and emotional support, with the added bonus of providing a safe place to grab a beer with mates.

Ashgrove Golf Club is more than a golf club. Get married, go birdwatching or join the foodies club, it’s a place to relax and enjoy the great outdoors whether you play golf or not. The menus are amazing so you may just want to go for lunch.

Taylor Range Country Club with 3 swimming pools, tennis courts, indoor squash courts and more, there is something for everyone day or night, indoors or out. Enjoy a BBQ when you’ve finished playing, host a work function for colleagues or just simply relax.

The Gap Health and Racquet Club caters to all of your health needs with fitness programs, trainers, youthfit and access 24 hours every day of the year. There’s childcare on site to help you out and tennis, dance, cardio, cycle and even strength and conditioning classes. For the whole family, every experience level is welcome.

The Gap Boxing Club provides fitness and fun through boxing classes. No joining fee required, just turn up and enjoy any session you wish. There’s kids’ classes and women’s only too so everyone can join in the fun with a group they are comfortable in.

Brisbane Bushwalkers Club welcomes all those who want to get out there and enjoy the great outdoors. For beginners, the more experienced or walk leader will help you out, and there are club walks on tracks of every difficulty, even through-walks and extra-long walks for those advance souls who have been trekking for years. There’s a photographic competition and walks covering the entire great Southeast.

The Men’s Shed is a fun club for men to get together and chew the fat and engage in activities of interest. There’s a walking club, a book club, Tai Chi sessions to join in on or just sit around and play cards, it’s an escape with friends to hang out and relax at The Men’s Shed.

Save Our Waterways Now – SOWN is a community conservation organisation working to restore and keep the waterways of the region healthy and promote optimal regeneration. The SOWN nursery provides native plants for free and it’s a great place to do your bit for the local environment.

It’s good to know there are clubs catering to so many different interests within our community.  This list is by no means exhaustive and doesn’t include church groups where you’ll also find a nuturing and supportive environment and the opportunity for companionship and finding others with similar interests.
