  • A great range of cuisines…

Lazy Sunday breakfasts, relaxed coffee with friends or just a great place to satisfy even the most hardcore foodies out there, yes, that’s what makes a local favourite.

It’s what keeps locals coming back time and again, guaranteed a pleasurable pastry, succulent steak or sensational salad. No matter what your taste is The Gap’s restaurants thrive on keeping their locals happy.

Banneton Bakery

On the weekends Banneton has queues out the door, taking the Aussies love of the local bakery to a new level.

Gourmet pies. Not just sensational sausage rolls but also catering for our plant-based friends with savoury spinach and ricotta rolls. It’s bakery style food at its’ best.

Showcases with all the iconic sweet treats, desserts and cakes, biscuits and slices are all there alongside the quiches and lasagnes, making your mouth water as you find a place to sit in the city-chic air-conditioned spacious interior dining area.

Or, curl up on the couch with the paper and a coffee. The popular alfresco sidewalk dining under giant umbrellas is perfect and pet friendly with staff supplying water bowls for your fur babies. Great service and great food, this local favourite ticks all the boxes.

The Green Tree Frog Cafe

Also known as the Walkabout Creek Café because of its location within Walkabout Creek, this is one of the area’s most popular places. An all-day limited menu of paninis, stuffed Turkish breads and toasted sandwiches are available daily or there’s a light lunch menu from 11.30am-1.00pm. Of course, there is always a heated scrumptious scone or marvellous muffin to go with your coffee if you don’t want lunch or are experiencing a ‘must have’ sweet craving.

Appealing to the nature lover, enjoy dining in this rainforest setting on either the open deck or undercover verandas wrapped around the café.

Kick back, relax and enjoy elevated surroundings while the kids play downstairs at the Discovery Centre discovering what it’s like to be a park ranger and get introduced to the Australian animals meeting and learning about our wildlife.

The Lodge

The Lodge incorporates great food, service and atmosphere with the serenity of life. Serving not only great food but community projects as well, it’s a vegetarian café good enough to satisfy the most hardcore carnivore.

It’s breakfasts, lunches and coffee are the stuff of legend locally, with the mushroom bruschetta reaching almost as high rave reviews as the staff.

Pet-friendly, those little wagging tails put a smile on your face which widens as you’re greeted upon entry. It’s the kind of place where locals are greeted by name and the dogs drag you there on their morning walk because they love going there as much as you do.

Zegatos Steak & Pasta Cafe

Zegatos Steak & Pasta Café The deck provides beautiful scenic views of the mountains or over the golf clubs’ fairways. It’s up to you if you enjoy your meal inside in airconditioning, or outside on the covered deck. The views alone are enough to keep you coming back.

Large portions of beautifully presented, fresh ingredient dishes make up the lunch and dinner menus guaranteeing no matter what you order it will hit the spot. Melt-in-your-mouth pork belly, succulent salmon or a sensational sand crab ravioli, there are amazing choices prepared by a talented chef and delivered by smiling staff. It’s veggie friendly, a foodies dream and there is something for every taste bud.

Siam Garden Thai Restaurant

With an impressive menu of 80 items covering all of your Asian favourites. Sweet ‘n Sour, rice and noodle dishes, Thai curries, soups, salads and sides and let’s not forget everyone’s favourite starter… the spring roll. A total crowd pleaser, you can eat in at the restaurant in a simple setting or take away and gorge yourself at home, or if you’re too tired at the end of the work week, they’ll deliver.

I’ve also attended a function here too and worth noting that the restaurant works well if you’d like to book out for your party.

There’s heaps of veggies options or cuisine for the carnivores so everyone has a wide range to choose from. All dishes are prepared with quality fresh ingredients, no MSG or other nasties which carries through into the fine flavours which is why locals keep coming back.

Cafe Tara

They have shown that the underdog can win. Cafe Tara is a popular family run, locally owned cafe. So much so that the chain store Coffee Club next door went out of business in a little Aussie battler success story. It just goes to show you can’t beat good prices, good grub and a dedication to your locals.

Whether it’s Eggs Benedict for breakfast or a hearty burger for lunch, the foods good, the service prompt and the atmosphere pleasant for couples, families or as a solo wanting a morning cuppa. The café itself gets really busy on the weekends.

Popular with bushwalkers and bikers, hikers and those heading to the surrounding parks and reserves for some time in nature, it’s a good place to fuel up.

Particularly on Sundays, it’s a fun rowdy full house. For that reason, if you want a table on a special day like Father’s Day or Mother’s Day then we suggest you book ahead.

Depending on price, cuisine and if you prefer breakfast at a café, easy lunch or a fine dining experience in a restaurant there are some good options available. It’s easy to find a fav local spot to suit your taste.
