Walkabout Creek

Nestled in the bushland of Mt Nebo in D’Aguilar National Park about 12km from Brisbane city, Walkabout Creek is a peaceful haven for nature lovers, those just looking for a pleasant day out and the quirky birders we all love so much. Oh, and let’s not forget the weddings. This is one popular spot to tie the knot. With the added benefit of free onsite parking, it has a lot to offer all year round. Cool off with a swim, interact with native wildlife by feeling the silky softness of small animals or get up the courage to pat a snake (even if it’s a little one), go kayaking, hiking, biking, and eat amazing food or just relax with a coffee overlooking some pretty special scenery. It’s easy to spend a full day at Walkabout Creek. Fun for the whole family, you can go for a kayak, bike ride on the trails, take the kids to the wildlife centre, enjoy a mouth-watering lunch or just immerse yourself in nature and mosey on down one of the walking tracks for a spot of nature spotting and birdwatching.

Walkabout Creek Café

Offers some mouth-watering options during a pit stop on any days adventuring, trekking or biking to replenish your thirst and your belly before getting back out there. If you don’t feel like trekking all over the countryside, then it’s just as lovely to meet friends for breakfast, lunch or afternoon tea on a relaxing getaway for a few hours. In the ‘good to know’ department is the fact that they also do picnic hampers for those of us too lazy to go shopping and pack our own basket which means you have more time to relax and enjoy yourself out there.

Weddings

This is one of the most popular places for an outdoor or rainforest wedding in the great southeast. Fully catered by one of Brisbane’s top caterers, you can choose anything from sit down a-la-carte, buffet style or even a cocktail party and nibbles. They’re happy to make your day perfect any way you want it making not only your wedding but the entire day something to remember.

Kayaking

Resting in the Enoggera Reservoir, swimming and kayaking are a popular way to escape the summer heat and cool off after a bike ride or hike. The area is open to non-motorised craft so kayaking is a great way to see the entire reservoir, go exploring its waterways and immerse yourself in nature as you glide along.

Walkabout Creek Discovery Centre

This is the place to capture your imagination no matter how old the nature lover inside you is. Twilight talks and night time tours, the natural habitats can be seen both day and night and are like seeing the animals in the wild. Kids can even become Jnr Rangers and learn all about the biodiversity of the area’s special mammals, reptiles, fish, birds and amphibians. There are ranger guided activities for the school holidays where they can get a chance to see one of nature’s most bizarre mysterious marvels, a platypus. Cost: Open every day of the week, admission is cheap at $7 for adults and $3.70 for kids or you can get a family pass for under $20.

Walking tracks

Walkabout Creek has 2 main walking tracks departing from the information centre. The shorter one Corymbia Circuit is only 1.5km but don’t let that fool you. It’s quite steep in places and will take you on a windy stroll through wet sclerophyll forests full of tall trees, a cooler shaded gully and an abundance of wildlife spotting opportunities so it’s worth the walk. The second and longer track Araucaria Track is an easy 5km walk suitable for the entire family. Mostly flat and following the reservoirs shoreline, you’re treated to a wealth of bird spotting opportunities through hoop pines and along the peninsula before it loops back again so be sure to take a camera and binoculars if you have them. You can take your time and stop for a swim, there are benches to sit on spread along the walk where you can sit and rest or have a little picnic before continuing on.

Kids’s Parties

Walkabout Creek Kid’s parties – every parents dream. Leave it all to the staff as you relax and enjoy the party along with the kids. Depending on their age and preference, you can have a party on the deck, get your face painted, or let them play as they explore their adventurous side while pretending to be a park ranger and learning all about the animals and what their job entails. They’ll be able to touch soft furry animals, pat silky snakes and interact with a range of wildlife igniting a lifelong passion for nature. Rangers do all the work and take the stress out of it for the parents so you can kick back and enjoy it too.

Corporate Functions and Conferences

What better way to have a work conference than in a peaceful setting high in the tree tops surrounded by natural light. Fully catered with delicious dishes of your choosing, it’s a complete crowd pleaser. They also have an outdoor amphitheatre to mix it up and keep people interested as well as state of the art audio-visual equipment to keep it professional. So, for work or play, for a weekend or a day, Walkabout Creek has a lot to offer in one location. Where is it: 60 Mount Nebo Rd, Enoggera Reservoir
